Pediatric Complications:

  • Problems sucking at breast or bottle, swallowing, maneuvering solids
  • Speech: Inability to enunciate tip of tongue consonants
  • Orthodontic: Dental carries, dental crowding, prognathism, TMJ malfunction
  • Social: Inability to?lick ice cream cones, stick tongue out at adults, pick up ice cube with tongue...etc.

Maternal Complications:

  • Nipple soreness, cracking, bleeding, ulcers
  • Nipple infection
  • Poor milk transfer
  • Incomplete breast drainage
  • Plugged ducts, Milk stasis, Mastitis
  • Suppressed lactation
  • Untimely weaning

Infant Complications:

  • Inability to latch onto breast
  • Frustration at breast
  • Weight loss
  • Breastfeeding (starvation) jaundice
  • Failure to thrive
  • Formula supplementation
  • Complications of formula feeding
